Jim Lister is a microlight instructor based at Strathaven airfield in Lanarkshire. Jim offers training and trial lessons both in his own Jabiru and the C42 Icarus aircraft operated by Sportflight Scotland. 

Jim set himself up as a flying instructor in the autumn of 2011 after retiring from Strathclyde police. He has been flying microlights for 23 years and it was a logical move for him to bring his considerable experience on to a business footing teaching others.  

The Jabiru is a modern, high performance, fully enclosed aircraft and the type holds the world speed record for microlights.  Capable of 120mph it is faster than many group 'A' private aircraft by the big names like Piper and Cessna. 

"The speed makes it easy to take in a good tour during the trial flight we do." 

While with the police Jim was an air observer in the helicopter unit giving him a unique insight and skill set among his peers.

At the time of writing Jim is working on enhancing his instructor rating to be able to do more with his students.  

Like most schools Jim charges by the hour for flying during which you can experience taking the controls and flying for yourself.  Whether you want to try out a new sport, see if you have what it takes to be a pilot or just want to enjoy the scenery Jim is keen to help out and share his knowledge.  He can of course teach you to solo standard if that is what you want to do
